Architecture of Charity

Description

This collection contains approximately 1,000 images of 139 scuole buildings and building sites in Venice built during c. 1100-1797. Established by the confraternities (the scuole), the Venetian Republic, churches and synagogues, and private donors, these buildings were once dedicated to acts of charity and public assistance.
