A Digital Archive of the Architecture of Charity: Venice c. 1100-1797

About This Exhibit

This exhibit features approximately 1,000 images of 139 buildings and building sites in Venice built during c. 1100-1797. Established by the confraternities (the scuole), the Venetian Republic, churches and synagogues, and private donors, these buildings were once dedicated to acts of charity and public assistance.

The images in this exhibit are organized by the six main neighborhoods (sestieri) of Venice: Cannaregio, Castello, Dorsoduro, San Marco, San Polo, and Santa Croce. From each neighborhood's page, click on the name of an individual building to view a gallery of associated images.
